On a beautiful sunny spring day, on the best pitch i have seen this season, Slough took on a ST Neots side too close to the relegation struggle then they would like. With the departure of striker Ed Smith dominating the talk on the supporter's coach, Slough took their unbeaten record against ST Neots looking to right the wrong of Wednesday's defeat to Frome to bed. Two new players from the academy made up the squad although the managers are looking for new recruits to bolster the threadbare squad.
ST Neots started the game brightly but the first real moment of any kind fell to Slough when Scott Harris chased and blocked the keepers kick but his cross was just behind Barney, but Barney kept going , only to scuff his shot wide. After a faint-hearted penalty appeal for ST Neots, when Hicks shoulder charged Roberts, Slough turned the screw on the home side, Scott Harris lobbing the keeper and the goal after latching onto a Scott goal kick.
Then a moment, the only real moment, of contraversy, as Hope shot from the edge of the area, his effort hit the bar and bounced out, only to find Warren Harris who shot from 6 yards out to goal, but Barney had the final touch on the line, as strikers do. At first a goal was given but it did look offside, and after the referee and linesman conferred, the goal was disallowed ,but photos are inconclusive it remained 0-0. Slough were getting behind the Saints defense with regular ease, and the next notable action cane from the rebels when Barney crossed for the unmarked Putman, only to see Ward stick a late leg out to divert the cross. The half ended with a Putman free kick was easily saved by Archer in the Saints goal HALF TIME 0-0.
ST Neots needed a better 2nd half performance, no shots on or off target in the 1st half, but indiscipline was the beginning the main talking point with Slough picking up 2 yellows and ST Neots 1. While the game was more even as ST Neots finally found their attacking edge, Slough were lacking a clinical touch as a Barney cross eluded was placed wide by Putman and Gokmen headed straight at the keeper, ST Neots best chance fell Roberts who with just the keeper to beat saw Hicks come from nowhere to block.
Two late chances came to Warren Harris, heading over when he should have got on target and then getting the ball caught in his feet with just Archer in goal bearing down on him FULL TIME 0-0.
