Easter Monday saw playoff chasing Hungerford visit Holloways Park with Slough looking to get back to winning ways but left having their feathers 'Preen-ed' as the Crusaders went back up the M4 with all 3 points. Slough failed to score again but still looked strong defensively although 2 mistakes cost them the game.
Recent Slough games have hardly been a spectacle and this was no difference as a game with few chances was won by the team who took theirs. Garyn Preen was the catalyst for Hungerford as he had two early chances ,first forcing a good save from Scott , then firing over from inside the box. Hungerford should have had a penalty when Brown was clipped by Hollis in the area but nothing was given. It took Slough over half an hour to have a decent effort as Mpi brushed off Rusby charging through on goal only to be denied by a well timed challenge from Horgan. Mpi then placed a shot over after latching onto a Hope free kick. As Slough were just starting to find their stride they conceded a soft goal as Dhillon failed to clear a cross allowing PREEN space to fire past a stranded Scott at his near post 0-1. Half time followed without any further action of note HALF TIME 0-1.
The second half should have seen Slough take the game to the opposition but apart from Mpi heading over from another Hope free kick, they offered very little to trouble the Hungerford defense. Again Preen was taking centre stage as he hit a shot into the ground which bounced up, hit the post, spun across goal before Scott gathered on the line. Mark Scott was forced into action again making a fine one-handed save a Horgan header from a corner caused Slough trouble. Hungerford had a free kick that was hit straight at the wall but the rebound fell to Preen but this time he was off target and fired wide. Slough's first real test of keeper Strudley came from an unusual source as Dhillon broke a tackle, then drilled a shot goalwards but was an easy save in the end. As with the first goal the second came after Slough had been on the attack as Hungerford broke with Draycott, who feed Preen, who then burst into the area, saw Fraser slip, then fired a cross-cum-shot across goal , that was tapped in by DRAYCOTT from a yard out 0-2. Gurkan Gokmen had come on as a substitute and hit at shot from 20 yards but it dribbled safely into the hands of the keeper. As with the Kettering match, Slough only came alive in the last minutes of the game, and in the 92nd minute had their best chance of the game as New had a header blocked on the line , then W.Harris saw his rebound shot saved by Strudley at close range.
The full time whistle blew shortly after and Slough continued their poor run with a 0-2 defeat.
